B+W Black Mist 1/8 MRC Nano V-PRO 43mm
B+W Black Mist 1/8 MRC Nano V-PRO 43mm | A gentle, cinematic glow
Bright lights and sharp highlights can look a little clinical in a photograph or video. The B+W Black Mist 1/8 is a diffusion filter for softening that crisp look, giving highlights a gentler glow while keeping the image’s overall character intact. Its 1/8 strength makes it the subtler option in the Black Mist range: a good place to start if you want a visible mood without making the effect the subject of the shot. It suits portrait photographers, filmmakers and anyone drawn to atmospheric night scenes, especially where practical lights or reflections are part of the composition. Use it when you want a softer rendering of bright points of light, rather than a filter for darkening the scene. The 43mm size is the key practical detail when choosing a filter: it needs to match the filter thread on the lens you plan to use. This version is marked MRC Nano V-PRO.
Specialist Note
At dusk, when shop windows and street lamps start to glow, I’d reach for the 1/8 strength to take the edge off those bright points without letting the mist effect dominate the frame. It also makes sense for a close portrait with a bright window or lamp in the background: keep that light in the composition and let the filter soften its appearance. The 43mm size is specific, so match it to a lens with a 43mm filter thread rather than assuming it will fit another lens in your bag. I’d choose this strength for a restrained look; if you want a bold, obvious glow, 1/8 may feel too subtle.
