Caruba Reverse Ring AI-72mm
Caruba Reverse Ring AI-72mm | Reverse a lens for close-up photography
Caruba Reverse Ring AI-72mm combines an AI camera connection with a 72mm lens-side thread for mounting a lens in reverse. It’s for photographers who want to explore close-up work with a compatible lens, rather than add another dedicated macro lens to their kit. Reversing a lens is a simple, hands-on way to photograph small subjects such as coins, stamps, plant details or textured materials at close range. The ring provides the physical connection; you’ll need a lens with a matching 72mm thread and an AI camera connection. It’s a specialist accessory for experimenting with magnification and framing, not a general filter or a shortcut to an automatic macro setup. If you enjoy working carefully with small subjects and adjusting your composition as you go, this gives you a direct way to try reversed-lens photography.
Specialist Note
At a quiet desk, a coin’s worn lettering becomes a subject in its own right. I’d suggest this ring to someone curious about close-up photography who already has a lens with a 72mm thread and an AI camera connection. Mount the lens in reverse, then move the camera gently to find the point where fine marks or paper fibres come into focus; that’s a practical way to work on small, still subjects. The 72mm thread is the detail to match on the lens, while the AI connection is the camera-side fit. It’s a focused tool for macro experiments, so I’d choose it for deliberate close-up work rather than everyday shooting.
