DZOFILM Dzo Film Catta Ace 18-35mm T2.9 - PL & EF Mount (FT/M)
DZOFILM Dzo Film Catta Ace 18-35mm T2.9 | A flexible framing range for film sets
Without a zoom, changing from a wide establishing view to a tighter composition usually means swapping lenses or moving the camera. The DZOFilm Catta Ace is an interchangeable wide-angle cinema zoom for filmmakers who want to vary framing between setups without changing lenses. Its Canon EF mount makes it relevant to crews working with Canon EF cameras. It’s best suited to planned video work—short films, interviews and scenes where adjusting the composition is useful—rather than distant subjects that call for longer reach. For a room scene, you can begin with a broad view, then tighten the framing as the scene calls for it. This gives a production one lens to work across a range of compositions, while keeping the job focused on video and filmmaking rather than stills-first use.
Specialist Note
At 18mm, I’d begin with a wide view that establishes the room; at 35mm, I’d frame a speaker more closely from the same camera position. That’s a practical setup for a locked interview or a planned scene with a couple of compositions. The maximum T2.9 aperture gives you room to open up when the available light is limited, though I wouldn’t expect aperture alone to solve every dim-room problem. Manual focus suits a crew that’s comfortable setting focus deliberately, especially on staged work. One honest limit: 35mm is still modest reach, so I’d choose another lens for subjects that need to be framed tightly from far away.
