Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 49mm ND 1.5 (5stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 49mm ND 1.5 (5stops) Filter | Five stops less light for slower shutter speeds
For smoother water, softer cloud movement or a wider aperture in bright conditions, this filter reduces the light reaching your camera so you can choose a slower shutter speed or a larger aperture. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 49mm ND 1.5 (5stops) Filter is a neutral-density filter with a 49mm size and a five-stop light reduction. That makes it useful when your chosen exposure would otherwise let in too much light. A five-stop reduction gives you room to lengthen the exposure while keeping the rest of your settings the same; the exact shutter speed you can use depends on the light and your starting exposure. It suits photographers who want to control motion or depth of field without changing the scene’s lighting. The 49mm size is the key fit detail: it’s intended for a lens with a matching 49mm filter thread.
Specialist Note
Bright light can get in the way when you want movement to read as a soft trace rather than a frozen instant. This Firecrest gives you five stops of reduction to work with: for example, a metered 1/125 sec exposure can become about 1/4 sec if you keep the aperture and ISO unchanged. That’s a practical starting point for smoothing a small waterfall or adding motion to a stream. The 49mm size is just as important as the strength; it’s suited to a lens with a 49mm filter thread, so match that measurement before choosing it. I’d recommend it to someone who wants moderate long-exposure control, though five stops won’t make every bright-day scene a very long exposure.
