Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 77mm ND 0.6 (2stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 77mm ND 0.6 (2stops) Filter | More control over exposure
The defining optical choice in this filter is its ND 0.6 density: it reduces the light reaching your camera by two stops, giving you more room to adjust shutter speed or aperture. The 77mm size identifies the filter diameter, so it suits a lens with a matching 77mm filter thread. For landscapes, that modest reduction can help you use a slower shutter to soften moving water. In bright conditions, it can also let you open the aperture while keeping exposure under control. Its strength is this measured adjustment, rather than heavy light blocking. That makes the Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 77mm ND 0.6 a good fit when the light is just a little too strong for the exposure you want. It’s especially handy when you want to keep your ISO steady and make the change through shutter speed instead.
Specialist Note
Exposure changes stay simple with a two-stop filter: you can make a clear adjustment without having to rethink the whole setup. For a flowing stream, for example, a shutter speed of 1/125 sec becomes about 1/30 sec with the filter in place, which gives the water more movement in the frame. The 77mm diameter is useful if your lens has a matching filter thread; it keeps the fit straightforward on that lens. I’d point this out to landscape photographers and anyone shooting portraits in bright light who wants a little more aperture freedom. One honest limit: two stops won’t deliver very long exposures in strong midday sun.
