Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 82mm ND 1.5 (5stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 82mm ND 1.5 (5stops) Filter | Five stops for slower exposures
In bright daylight, a stream can look frozen in a photo because the shutter speed has to stay short. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 82mm ND 1.5 (5stops) Filter reduces the light reaching the camera by five stops, giving you room to use a longer exposure. That makes it a considered tool for landscape photographers who want to show the movement of water, or for anyone who needs to manage exposure in strong light. Its ND 1.5 rating describes the filter’s density, while the five-stop figure tells you how much light it holds back in practical exposure terms. The 82mm size is relevant when choosing a filter for a lens with a matching filter diameter. It won’t create motion in a still scene, but it gives you more control over shutter speed when the light would otherwise limit your options.
Specialist Note
Bright conditions can leave you with a shutter speed too fast to show water moving; this filter gives you more room to lengthen it. For a landscape photographer with an 82mm filter-size lens, that size is the key fit detail to match before choosing it. The five-stop reduction is substantial: if your meter reads 1/125 sec without the filter, you can use about 1/4 sec at the same aperture and ISO. That’s a useful starting point for giving a stream visible movement. It suits deliberate landscape work more than quick handheld moments, and the final look still depends on how fast the water is flowing.
