Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 95mm ND 0.6 (2stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 95mm ND 0.6 (2stops) Filter | More control over bright-day exposures
Keep more control over shutter speed in bright conditions with this Formatt Hitech neutral density filter. It reduces the light reaching the camera, so you can choose a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture without relying on the scene becoming darker. That makes it useful for landscape photographers who want to show movement in water, and for anyone who wants a little more freedom with exposure outdoors. It can also help you work with a wider aperture in bright light when you want a shallower depth of field. The effect is deliberately moderate: it gives you room to adjust your exposure, rather than turning a bright scene into a very long-exposure setup on its own. If you’re planning a specific shutter speed, think of the filter as one part of the exposure choice, alongside your aperture and ISO.
Specialist Note
2 stops means four times as much exposure time at the same aperture and ISO: for example, a shutter speed of 1/4 second becomes 1 second. That’s a helpful nudge for giving a stream or small waves visible movement, without making a short exposure into a very long one. The 95mm size is the detail to plan around; your filter holder needs to accommodate that diameter. I’d recommend this to someone who wants a measured reduction for outdoor work, especially when a little motion or a wider aperture is the goal. Its limit is also clear: two stops won’t be enough for every bright-day long exposure.
