GREEN.L 49mm HMC ND Fader Variable
GREEN.L 49mm HMC ND Fader Variable | Adjustable light reduction
Unlike a fixed-strength ND filter, the GREEN.L 49mm HMC ND Fader Variable lets you adjust light reduction as conditions change, without swapping between filters of different strengths. It suits photographers and videographers who want more control over exposure in bright light, especially when they’re working with a consistent shutter speed or want to use a wider aperture. For video, you can fine-tune the filter as daylight shifts; for stills, reducing the light reaching the camera can help you choose a slower shutter speed for movement. The variable design makes it easier to make that adjustment in one step, rather than deciding on a fixed strength in advance. It’s a focused tool for exposure control, rather than a filter intended to change colour or add a creative surface effect. The 49mm size is a key fit detail, so match it to the filter thread on the lens you plan to use.
Specialist Note
First-time ND buyers often assume a fixed-strength filter will suit every lighting situation; this variable fader gives you room to adjust the light reduction instead. I’d use it for a bright-day video shot where you want to keep your chosen shutter speed, turning the filter gradually as the light changes. It can also help with a still photo of moving water: reduce the light, then select a slower shutter speed to show movement. The 49mm diameter means it’s for a lens with a 49mm filter thread, so it won’t fit every lens in a kit. If that matches your lens, it’s a straightforward way to adjust exposure without changing filters.
