GREEN.L HB-45 Lens Hood For Nikkor AF-S DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR
GREEN.L HB-45 Lens Hood For Nikkor AF-S DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR | Helps limit stray light
Its defining design decision is a lens-specific match: this GREEN.L HB-45 is named for the Nikkor AF-S DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR, so it’s intended to sit with that particular zoom. A hood helps shade the lens from stray light coming in from the sides, which can reduce flare and washed-out contrast when a bright light source is near the frame. That makes it a practical addition for photographers who use this Nikkor for everyday scenes, landscapes or travel pictures and want a simple way to manage strong surrounding light. It’s especially relevant outdoors, where the sun may be close to your composition but not quite in it. This is a focused accessory for the named lens, not a general-purpose hood to choose by appearance alone.
Specialist Note
For photographers who take landscapes, street scenes and family pictures on the Nikkor 18-55mm, this hood is a straightforward match. At 18mm, I’d use it when framing a wide view with the sun just outside the edge; shading the lens can help keep stray light from washing across the picture. At 55mm, it remains useful for tighter compositions in bright conditions. The lens’s f/3.5-5.6 aperture range means its maximum aperture changes across the zoom range, but the hood doesn’t alter that exposure choice—it’s there to manage light arriving from the side. It won’t remove flare from a light source inside the frame, so composition still matters.
