GREEN.L MC-CPL 55mm

GREEN.L MC-CPL 55mm | Control reflections and deepen skies

Bright reflections can obscure detail in water, glass and glossy surfaces, while a clear sky may look less defined in a photograph than it did to you. The GREEN.L MC-CPL 55mm is a circular polarizing filter: rotate it to adjust how much reflected light reaches the lens. The effect can reduce distracting glare and make a blue sky appear deeper, depending on the light and your shooting angle. It suits photographers who want more control over reflections and sky appearance while making the picture, rather than relying on edits later. Use it for outdoor scenes, shop windows or water, turning the filter while looking through the camera until the effect looks right. The 55mm size is for a lens with a matching 55mm filter thread. A polarizer won’t remove every reflection, and its effect varies with the direction of the light, so it’s best treated as a controllable tool rather than an automatic fix.

Using the filter

Start by rotating the filter slowly while viewing the scene, and stop when the glare is reduced to the level you want. For a sky, the change is often most noticeable when you’re photographing at an angle to the sun; pointing straight toward or away from it can make the polarizing effect less apparent. This hands-on adjustment makes it easier to keep some reflections when they help describe a surface, instead of removing them all.
