H&Y HD EVO-Series White Mist 1/8 Filter Kit 82mm
H&Y HD EVO-Series White Mist 1/8 Filter Kit 82mm | A gentle, softened look
A bright window or a point of light in the frame can feel a little too crisp; a White Mist filter is made for giving that light a softer presence. The H&Y HD EVO-Series White Mist 1/8 is a diffusion filter in an 82mm size, with a light 1/8 strength. That makes it a good fit for photographers and filmmakers who want a restrained mist effect rather than an overtly dreamy look. It can be used to soften the rendering of highlights in portraits, indoor scenes and night-time images, while keeping the effect subtle. The 82mm size is the key practical detail when matching it to a lens: use it with a lens that takes 82mm filters. This kit is worth considering when you want to shape the look in-camera, especially in scenes with bright sources against darker surroundings.
Working with a subtle mist effect
Start with a scene that has a clear highlight—a window, a lamp or a bright reflection—and check the result at your intended framing. The 1/8 strength is aimed at a gentle change, so look closely at how highlights and skin render rather than expecting a dramatic haze. For a portrait, position a bright source in the background and keep the face well lit; for a night scene, include a few points of light and judge how much softness suits the image. A quick comparison with and without the filter can help you decide whether the effect is right for the shot.
Specialist Note
The 82mm rim is the practical starting point: if your lens takes 82mm filters, this is the size to look for, and you can keep the same filter choice in mind across your compatible lenses. The 1/8 strength gives you a restrained way to soften bright points without making the mist effect the whole subject. I’d consider it for a close portrait near a bright window, or for a night frame with lamps in view; keep the light in the composition and compare the rendering with the filter on and off. It suits photographers who want a controlled, gentle change. Don’t expect a heavy, visibly hazy finish from this strength.
