Hahnemühle Hemp 290GSM 17 INCHX12 M

Hahnemühle Hemp 290GSM 17 INCHX12 M | Paper for long-format prints

When a print job needs a consistent, long sheet rather than a small pack of standard-size paper, the Hahnemühle Hemp 290GSM in 17 inch x 12 m gives you a clearly stated format to plan around. It’s printer paper from Hahnemühle, with a weight of 290gsm and a width of 17 inches; the listed length is 12 metres. That makes the key buying details easy to assess before you commit to a print run: the paper name, weight and dimensions are all right there. It suits printmakers and photographers selecting paper for a particular output size, as well as anyone who needs a longer quantity in one stated format. The honest point is that paper names alone don’t tell you how a print will look. Start with the physical size and weight, then choose it when those match the job you have in mind.

Planning your print

The 17-inch width is the useful number to compare with the layout you’re preparing. Allow for the part of the image that needs to remain inside the printable area, and decide how much length your job calls for; the supplied length is 12 m. If you’re preparing several prints, you can use that length to estimate how many pieces your planned cut size may yield, while leaving room for any margins you want. The 290gsm figure is also worth considering when you’re comparing paper by weight. It gives you a concrete basis for choosing between papers, rather than relying on a product name alone. I’d keep the dimensions beside your layout while planning: it’s a simple check that can save an awkward mismatch between the intended print and the paper you’ve chosen.
