Kase Revolution Soft GND 1.2 95 mm
Kase Revolution Soft GND 1.2 95 mm | Balance bright skies with softer transitions
Without a graduated filter, you’re usually choosing between keeping detail in a bright sky and holding onto the darker land below it. The Kase Revolution Soft GND 1.2 helps reduce that difference in a single exposure. Its soft gradation makes it suited to scenes where the horizon isn’t a clean, straight line, such as a landscape with distant hills or an uneven skyline. The 1.2 strength corresponds to four stops of light reduction at the darkest part of the filter, giving you a substantial adjustment when the sky is much brighter than the foreground. The 95 mm size is an important detail when selecting it for a filter setup. This filter is most useful when the brightness change in your scene runs broadly from top to bottom; it won’t selectively darken just the sky if objects cross the transition.
Specialist Note
For a bright sky above a rolling hillside, I’d begin with the 1.2 strength and place the soft transition across the horizon. Four stops at the dense end can make a real difference when the land would otherwise fall too dark as you expose for the sky. The soft gradation is helpful when hilltops or an uneven skyline break that boundary, because the change is less abrupt than a hard transition. It suits landscape photographers who want to balance the scene in-camera rather than rely on a large brightness correction later. The 95 mm size is the detail to match to your filter arrangement; just remember that anything crossing the graduated area is affected too.
