Kondor Blue KB-ML-R Mini Lock Quick Release Plates | Move between tripod and handheld work

Spend less time dealing with your tripod setup when you want to take the camera off and shoot handheld. The Kondor Blue KB-ML-R Mini Lock Quick Release Plates are a tripod accessory for photographers and filmmakers who want a quicker change between tripod-mounted work and carrying the camera freely. Their quick-release design is the point: the plate provides a link between camera and tripod that’s intended to make that change easier than setting up the connection from scratch each time. The Mini Lock name also signals that locking is part of the design, rather than the plate being a plain, unnamed piece of tripod hardware. This is a practical choice for a one-camera routine that moves between a fixed viewpoint and handheld shots, such as recording a seated interview and then filming supporting footage. It’s a focused accessory, not a tripod or a camera support system on its own.

Specialist Note

First-time quick-release plate owners can underestimate how much smoother a camera change feels when the plate is part of the setup from the start. The KB-ML-R is specifically named as a Mini Lock Quick Release plate for tripod use, so it suits someone who wants that connection ready for a switch from a locked-off view to handheld filming. For a one-camera workflow, I’d leave the plate with the camera during the tripod portion, then release the camera when you need to move around. That’s especially handy for an interview followed by handheld cutaways. It’s a specialised accessory, though: it won’t replace the tripod itself, and its usefulness depends on fitting your existing setup.
