Kowa Adapter Ring TSN-AR11WZ

Kowa Adapter Ring TSN-AR11WZ: Connect an OtterBox RP case to a scope eyepiece

Capture photos and video through a Kowa spotting scope with your smartphone using the Kowa Adapter Ring TSN-AR11WZ, a 55 mm ring for connecting a phone adapter to an eyepiece. It’s made for smartphone digiscoping: the phone records the view you’d otherwise see through the scope, bringing a distant subject into a larger frame. That’s useful for taking stills, recording clips or sharing the scope’s view with people gathered around the phone screen. The ring is intended for use with OtterBox RP-series cases and fits the Kowa TSN-880 and TSN-770 spotting scopes. It’s a specific link in the setup, rather than a complete smartphone adapter, so check that you have the matching Kowa smartphone adapter and case. For bird or wildlife viewing, that means you can keep the view in the scope and also make a phone recording of it.

Smartphone Digiscoping Details

• 55 mm adapter ring: The ring’s stated size is 55 mm. That measurement is the key detail to compare with the matching adapter and phone-case setup, since the ring connects those parts to the scope eyepiece.
• OtterBox RP-series case fit: Kowa specifies this ring for use with OtterBox RP-series cases. The case provides the threaded connection for the smartphone adapter, so the ring is intended for that particular case range.
• Connects adapter to eyepiece: The ring links the Kowa smartphone adapter with the spotting-scope eyepiece. Once attached, the phone displays the view seen through the eyepiece for photos or video.
• For Kowa TSN-880 and TSN-770: These two spotting-scope series are named for use with the ring. That gives you a clear compatibility reference when matching the ring to your Kowa scope.
• Share the scope view: The phone screen can show the view to more than one person at a time. It’s a handy way to share what you’re observing without everyone needing to look through the eyepiece in turn.

Good to know

Digiscoping magnifies the subject through a spotting scope, but movement can also show up in a phone photo or video. Kowa’s guidance is to use a tripod to keep movement to a minimum. That applies to both still images and clips, and is especially relevant when you’re recording a view at high magnification. The tripod isn’t listed as part of this ring’s contents.
