LaCie 2big Dock Thunderbolt 3 12TB STGB12000400
LaCie 2big Dock Thunderbolt 3 12TB STGB12000400 | Room for a large archive
Keeping a substantial photo archive together is the main job of the LaCie 2big Dock Thunderbolt 3 12TB STGB12000400. It’s an external HDD with 12TB of storage, suited to photographers who want a dedicated place for a growing collection of image files. The name also specifies Thunderbolt 3. If you’d rather keep projects together on an external drive than spread them across several smaller storage devices, this gives you a clear capacity to plan around. It’s especially relevant for long-running work where you want past shoots close at hand alongside current projects. One honest point: a large drive helps with organising a collection, but it doesn’t replace a considered backup routine. Think through what you want to keep on the drive and how you’ll protect anything you can’t afford to lose.
Planning your storage
For a camera workflow, storage needs tend to build over time. You might want to keep finished work, selects, and active projects in one place, or simply make room for a growing archive. The 12TB capacity gives you a concrete figure to weigh against the size of your collection and how quickly it grows. That makes this model worth considering if a small portable drive no longer feels like enough space for the material you want to retain.
Before choosing any external HDD, it helps to decide how it fits into your routine: what you’ll store on it, how you’ll organise those files, and where you’ll keep another copy of important work. That’s practical planning rather than a feature of the drive, but it matters. The LaCie’s title gives you two useful details to start with: 12TB capacity and Thunderbolt 3. If those match the storage space and connection you’re looking for, this is a straightforward option to compare with your current setup.
