Laowa Sword 25mm T2.9 1X Macro Cine Lens ARRI PL | Bring tiny details into clear view

When a product’s fine texture or a small natural detail needs to carry a shot, a macro cine lens earns its place. The Laowa Sword 25mm T2.9 1X Macro Cine Lens is an interchangeable lens for cinematographers working with close-up subjects, from tabletop product scenes to leaves, insects and other details in nature. Its 1X macro capability lets you record a subject at life-size magnification, while the 25mm focal length gives you a distinct close-up perspective that can keep some surrounding context in the composition. Focus is manual, which suits deliberate setups where you can take time to place the focus precisely. The lens has an ARRI PL mount and a maximum aperture of T2.9. It’s a specialist option for filmmakers who want close-up control in a cinema workflow, rather than a general-purpose lens for fast, spontaneous coverage.

Specialist Note

The 25mm focal length is a useful detail to think about before planning a macro shot: it can show the subject with a little of its setting, so a product can feel grounded on a surface or a nature detail can retain some context. For tiny markings or surface texture, use the 1X macro capability and make small manual focus adjustments until the precise detail sits sharp. T2.9 gives you the option to open the lens up when you need more light, but at life-size magnification the sharp zone is very thin; don’t expect an entire small object to stay crisp at that setting. I’d recommend it for considered product scenes and carefully composed nature close-ups, not action where autofocus speed matters.
