Meyer Optik Görlitz Biotar 75 f/1.5 II Canon RF
Meyer Optik Görlitz Biotar 75 f/1.5 II Canon RF | Fast-aperture portrait framing
For a carefully framed portrait, the Meyer Optik Görlitz Biotar 75 f/1.5 II gives you a 75mm focal length and a generous maximum aperture. This telephoto lens is made for Canon RF cameras, and its fixed focal length makes it a considered option for photographers who want to work with one framing rather than zoom in and out. The f/1.5 aperture gives you room to work with a shallow depth of field, useful when you want your subject to draw attention against a softer background. It can also help when the light is low, although your shutter speed and ISO still matter. Portraits are an obvious use, but the tighter framing can also suit details where you want to concentrate attention on a particular part of a scene. If that deliberate way of working appeals to you, this Biotar gives you a distinctive set of core choices: 75mm, f/1.5 and Canon RF fit.
Specialist Note
The f/1.5 aperture gives this lens its most expressive setting: it lets you work with a very shallow zone of focus, so placement matters. For a head-and-shoulders portrait, focus carefully on the nearer eye and keep your subject at a comfortable distance; the 75mm focal length makes that tighter composition straightforward. It also suits details when you want to isolate a small part of a scene rather than include everything around it. I’d suggest it to photographers who enjoy making deliberate framing choices instead of relying on a zoom. One honest consideration: at f/1.5, small focus errors are easier to notice, so take care with your focus point.
