Meyer Optik Görlitz Trioplan 100mm f/2.8 II Canon RF-Mount | Manual-focus reach for portraits and events

At a portrait session, a little extra distance can make it easier to frame your subject without crowding them. The Meyer Optik Görlitz Trioplan 100mm f/2.8 II is a short telephoto prime lens for Canon RF-mount cameras, with a 100mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/2.8. It’s a considered fit for portraits and events, where you can take time to focus on a face or choose a moment between the bustle. Manual focus asks you to set focus yourself, so it suits a deliberate pace more than fast, unpredictable action. The f/2.8 maximum aperture gives you room to work with a shallower depth of field, helping draw attention to your subject. If you enjoy taking control of focus and want a dedicated short telephoto for people photography, this lens keeps the brief refreshingly clear.

Specialist Note

The f/2.8 aperture is the detail I’d point to first: it gives you a practical way to soften the background behind a portrait, while keeping your focus point on the person. Manual focus makes you slow down and place that point yourself, which suits a settled portrait or a speaker between gestures better than chasing quick movement. For an event, I’d start around 1/250s for people who are moving gently, then adjust exposure to the light. This is a lens for photographers who enjoy working with focus deliberately; if the moment is changing constantly, manual focusing can be a real limitation.
