Specialist Note
For framing a whole building when the street gives you nowhere to step back, the 8–18mm range is more direct than making a panorama from several frames. I’d point it toward architecture or a broad landscape when keeping the scene in one composition matters. On a Micro Four Thirds body, the field of view corresponds to 16–36mm, which gives you a very wide starting point but still lets you pull back from the most dramatic perspective. For night-sky work, use the 8mm end at f/2.8 to gather more light; as you zoom in, the maximum aperture narrows to f/4, so you’ll have less room to work in very dark conditions. It suits someone who wants one lens for wide compositions, not a long-reach option.
