Pentax Lens Hood MH-RG49 Silver | A simple way to shade the lens

Without a lens hood, strong light from just outside the frame can reach the front of the lens and contribute to flare. The Pentax Lens Hood MH-RG49 is an accessory for photographers who want a hood for their lens, especially when shooting outdoors in bright or changeable light. Its job is practical: help shade the lens from stray light while you compose, without asking you to change your exposure settings or shooting style. The silver finish gives this version a distinct look, so it may also suit photographers who prefer their accessories to match a silver lens. The product name identifies it as the MH-RG49; that detail is useful when you’re looking for this particular hood rather than a generic accessory. A hood can’t remove flare caused by every lighting angle, but it’s a straightforward aid when unwanted light is coming from the side.

Specialist Note

Does the silver Pentax MH-RG49 do more than finish off a lens? Yes: as a lens hood, it’s there to shade the lens from stray light, and the silver colour gives it a different appearance from a plain black accessory. I’d consider it for outdoor portraits with bright light coming from the side, or for a view with a bright lamp just beyond the frame. Fit the hood to its intended lens before composing, then adjust your position if flare is still visible; a hood can’t block light arriving straight into the lens. The MH-RG49 name is worth keeping in mind when identifying the specific version you need.
