PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 2-5 Helix Maglock Filter Only Black Mist McKinnon Series
PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 2-5 Helix Maglock Filter Only Black Mist McKinnon Series | Shape light and reflections in one filter
Bright daylight can make it hard to control exposure while keeping the look you want. This PolarPro filter combines a variable neutral density filter with a polarizer, so it can reduce incoming light and help manage reflections. The 2–5 range gives you room to adjust light reduction as conditions change, while the Black Mist element adds a softer character to highlights. It suits filmmakers and photographers who want to shape exposure, reflections and image style with one filter rather than treating each as a separate job. The Helix Maglock name identifies its filter system, and McKinnon Series is the line it belongs to. This is a distinctive combination: practical exposure control alongside a deliberate diffusion look. If you want a clean, unsoftened rendering above all else, the Black Mist effect may not suit every frame.
Specialist Note
The Helix Maglock connection is the physical detail I’d point out first: it gives this filter a dedicated locking interface, rather than being just another filter name on the ring. The 2–5 range is useful when daylight changes; you can adjust the amount of light reduction without giving up the polarizer’s role in managing reflections. For video near water or glass, use the polarizing effect to tame distracting glare, then set the variable density to suit the scene. The Black Mist character also makes sense for portraits with bright highlights, though it softens the rendering. I’d choose it when that look is intentional, not for work that calls for crisp, neutral detail.
