PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 6-9 - Gold Mist - 67mm - McKinnon Series
PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 6-9 - Gold Mist - 67mm - McKinnon Series | Control light, add a softer look
The PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 6-9 - Gold Mist - 67mm - McKinnon Series combines a variable 6–9-stop neutral-density range with a Gold Mist look in a 67mm filter. It’s aimed at filmmakers and photographers who want to manage bright light while shaping the look of an image with one filter. The variable ND range lets you reduce the light reaching the lens across several stops, which is useful when you want to keep exposure under control outdoors. The PL in the name also identifies it as a polarizing filter. Gold Mist gives the image a softer, warmer character rather than a strictly neutral look. That makes this a considered creative choice for portraits, bright streets or sunlit scenes where a gentle glow suits the subject. It’s best for people who want exposure control and a distinct visual treatment in the same filter, rather than a neutral filter alone.
Choosing the Gold Mist look
Think of the Gold Mist finish as part of the image, not simply a way to cut light. It’s suited to scenes where you want a softer, warmer impression; for a neutral rendering, that creative look may not be the right fit. The 6–9-stop range is especially relevant in bright conditions, when reducing light can help keep exposure within your chosen settings.
Specialist Note
Bright reflections skim across a canal in the afternoon, and this is where the Chroma’s two jobs make sense together. I’d consider it for a short film or a portrait in hard daylight: the 6–9-stop range gives you room to cut incoming light, while the Gold Mist treatment brings a warmer, softer feel to the frame. The 67mm size is the practical detail to match to a lens’s filter thread; it doesn’t fit every lens by default. I’d choose this when you want that atmospheric finish as part of the shot, rather than when colour-neutral results are the priority.
