PolarPro LiteChaser 16 - VND 2-5 Black Mist Filter
PolarPro LiteChaser 16 - VND 2-5 Black Mist Filter | Control light with a softer look
Without an ND filter, bright conditions can push you to change your shutter speed or aperture just to keep exposure in check. The PolarPro LiteChaser 16 - VND 2-5 Black Mist Filter brings variable light reduction together with a Black Mist look, for photographers and filmmakers who want both in one filter. It’s suited to situations where you want to manage incoming light while keeping a particular character in the image, rather than treating filtration as purely technical. That can be useful for outdoor video, or for stills where you want a softer rendering alongside exposure control. The variable design gives you a range to work within, so you can adjust the amount of ND effect as conditions change. Bear in mind that the Black Mist part is an aesthetic choice too: it affects the look you’re aiming for, not just the exposure.
Specialist Note
At 2 stops, I’d start with the lighter end of this filter’s range, then move toward 5 stops if the scene calls for more light reduction. That span gives you room to adjust exposure without immediately changing your chosen shutter speed or aperture. The Black Mist element is the other reason to choose this particular version: it brings a softer character to the image, so I’d consider it for daylight video or portraits where you want that look as part of the result. It suits someone who wants exposure control and a deliberate visual effect together. My honest advice: if you want ND filtration with no added look, Black Mist may not be the effect you’re after.
