Rycote 10cm Short Hair SFT 19/22
Rycote 10cm Short Hair SFT 19/22 | Helps tame wind noise on location
A light breeze can turn a clear spoken line into a recording full of distracting rumble. The Rycote 10cm Short Hair SFT 19/22 is a short-haired microphone cover for situations where you want help controlling wind noise without reaching for a larger-looking solution. It suits location sound recordists, interviewers and anyone recording speech outdoors or near moving air. The 10cm size gives you a compact cover to consider for a short microphone setup, while the 19/22 designation identifies its sizing. That makes it important to match the cover to the microphone it’s intended to fit. Use it when you’re recording a quick interview, a piece to camera or ambient sound in a breezy spot. It’s a focused accessory for managing wind at the microphone, rather than a replacement for careful mic placement in challenging conditions.
Where it earns its place
This cover is most relevant when the microphone needs protection from light wind but you want to keep the setup compact. For speech, place the microphone close enough to the speaker for a clear voice, then use the cover to help reduce wind reaching the capsule. In stronger or gusty conditions, changing the microphone position or finding shelter can still make a difference; a short-haired cover has limits.
Specialist Note
The short-haired surface gives this cover its distinctive feel, and the 10cm length keeps the format compact around a microphone. I’d consider it for a location interview or a piece to camera where wind is beginning to interfere with speech: keep the mic close to the speaker and use the cover to help tame the airflow. The 19/22 sizing is the detail to pay attention to, since a cover needs to suit the microphone it’s going over. It’s a specific solution for a short setup, not a cure for strong gusts; in exposed conditions, good positioning matters too.
