Rycote 18cm SGM Foam & Windjammer (24/25)
Rycote 18cm SGM Foam & Windjammer (24/25) | Help tame wind noise on mic recordings
For outdoor speech recordings, wind reaching the microphone can distract from the words; this Rycote foam and windjammer gives you a dedicated way to address that. The Rycote 18cm SGM Foam & Windjammer (24/25) is a microphone accessory named for an 18cm size, intended for recording situations where wind protection matters. It suits sound recordists and video makers capturing interviews, spoken pieces or location audio, especially when they need to work outside rather than rely on finding shelter. The product name specifies both foam and a windjammer, making it a more considered option than simply hoping the microphone’s position will keep gusts away. It’s worth keeping expectations sensible: wind protection can help with wind noise, but this title alone gives no basis for promising a particular result in every condition. If your work regularly takes you outdoors, the 18cm size and named protection are the key details to match to your setup.
Specialist Note
This Rycote set puts wind protection at the microphone, instead of relying on your body or a nearby obstacle to shield it. The 18cm designation gives you a clear size detail to work from when considering the microphone you intend to use it with; don’t treat it as a universal fit. The foam and windjammer pairing is aimed at managing wind noise, which is useful for recording an interview outside or capturing spoken audio on location. I’d consider it when the mic needs to stay in position and the surroundings can’t be controlled. It’s a focused accessory, not a promise that every gust will disappear.
