Rycote CA-08 Stereo Pair Cardioid Microphone
Rycote CA-08 Stereo Pair Cardioid Microphone | Two cardioid microphones for stereo recording
The defining choice in the Rycote CA-08 is its cardioid pickup pattern: it favors sound coming from the front, which helps keep attention on the source rather than the room around it. This is a stereo pair, so you can record a scene with left-to-right perspective instead of relying on a single microphone’s view. It suits musicians and recording enthusiasts working with acoustic sources where the arrangement and space matter: a small ensemble, two instruments playing together, or a live performance. Aim the microphones toward the sound you want to lead the recording, and their directional pattern gives you a practical way to focus each one. The CA-08 is for people who want to make a stereo recording with two cardioid microphones, and who can set them up as a pair. Its appeal is straightforward: two microphones, a directional pattern, and a stereo perspective to shape around the source.
Specialist Note
A small ensemble is warming up in a rehearsal room, and the CA-08 pair has a clear role: capture the group as a stereo scene. I’d point both cardioid microphones toward the performers, with one covering each side, then listen to the balance before recording. The pair gives you two perspectives for left and right; the cardioid pattern helps the sound in front of each microphone take priority over sound behind it. It suits musicians and recordists who want to record an ensemble or two instruments together and can work with a stereo setup. One thing to keep in mind: this is a pair, so it’s less suited to someone who needs just one microphone.
