Rycote Dpa 4099 Mini Windjammer
Rycote Dpa 4099 Mini Windjammer | Wind protection for your DPA 4099
Without a wind cover, moving air can reach a microphone directly and become distracting noise in a recording. The Rycote Dpa 4099 Mini Windjammer is an accessory for users of the DPA 4099 who want a dedicated wind cover for that microphone. It’s a focused bit of kit rather than a general microphone accessory: the product name identifies the 4099, so it makes most sense when that’s the microphone in your setup. Think of location recording where there’s a breeze, or a recording position near moving air indoors. The black colour keeps the look understated alongside dark equipment. A windjammer can help with wind, but it won’t remove every source of unwanted sound; placement and the conditions around the microphone still matter. If you use a DPA 4099 and want wind protection made for that specific model, this is a straightforward accessory to consider.
Specialist Note
For a DPA 4099 recording outdoors, I’d make the Mini Windjammer part of the setup whenever there’s air moving around the microphone. Its name makes the intended pairing clear: it’s for the 4099, rather than a cover to shop for by appearance alone. The black finish is a practical, low-key match if you’d rather the microphone setup not draw the eye. I’d consider it for outdoor takes in a light breeze, or for a position indoors where airflow is reaching the mic; keep the microphone out of the strongest gusts rather than expecting a cover to solve everything. It suits 4099 users who want a specific wind-protection accessory, and its usefulness is deliberately narrow: it’s tied to that microphone model.
