Rycote Duck Raincover 3
Rycote Duck Raincover 3 | Rain protection for microphone work
Its purpose is simple: the Rycote Duck Raincover 3 is a raincover for microphone use, giving you a dedicated way to address wet weather around your recording setup. It suits people working with microphones outdoors, from location-recording crews to anyone capturing interviews or ambient sound when the weather turns. The name tells you what it’s for, without suggesting it’s a general-purpose cover for other equipment. That focus is useful when rain is the specific concern and you want to keep your attention on recording rather than improvising protection. The product is identified as version 3, but the model name alone doesn’t tell you which microphones it fits or how it handles different levels of rainfall. Treat it as a microphone raincover, and make sure the fit is right for your particular setup before relying on it in wet conditions.
Specialist Note
A common mistake with rain protection is leaving it until the microphone is already getting wet; a purpose-made raincover gives you a more considered option before you start recording. The Rycote Duck Raincover 3 is specifically named as a microphone raincover, so its role is clear: addressing rain around the microphone, not protecting an entire recording kit. I’d consider it for outdoor interviews or recording ambient sound when rain is a concern, and plan the setup before the session rather than trying to fit protection in a hurry. The “3” is part of the product name, not a measure of how much rain it can handle, so I wouldn’t use it to judge weather limits.
