Rycote Duck Raincover 4
Rycote Duck Raincover 4 | Keep rain off your microphone
Rain threatening a recording can leave you choosing between protecting the microphone and carrying on with the job. The Rycote Duck Raincover 4 is a microphone raincover for situations where rain is a concern during recording. It’s suited to sound recordists, interviewers and crews who use microphones outdoors and want a dedicated cover in their wet-weather kit. Its role is clear: help shield a microphone from rain, rather than protect the rest of your equipment. For an outdoor interview, location dialogue or a field recording, have it ready before the weather turns and include it in your plan for working in wet conditions. The name also makes the intended use easy to identify when you’re organising your sound gear: this is the Duck Raincover 4 from Rycote, in the microphone accessories category.
Specialist Note
I wouldn’t treat a microphone raincover as protection for an entire recording setup; water can still affect other equipment. The reason to consider the Duck Raincover 4 is its focused role as a Rycote microphone accessory: it’s intended to help shelter the microphone itself. For an outdoor interview, have it ready before the first drops and keep the microphone covered during pauses, not just while someone is speaking. For location dialogue, think about where you’ll stand and keep the rest of the sound setup out of standing water too. It suits people who take microphones outdoors and want a dedicated raincover close at hand.
