Rycote Duck Raincover 8
Rycote Duck Raincover 8 | A raincover for microphone use
Rain around a recording setup can put a microphone in the weather’s path. The Rycote Duck Raincover 8 is a microphone raincover, intended for situations where you want a cover between the microphone and falling rain. It’s relevant to location sound recordists, interview crews and anyone recording spoken audio outdoors when conditions may turn wet. Its name gives you the key distinction: this is a cover for microphone use, rather than a general camera rain cover. That makes it worth considering when rain protection for the microphone is part of planning a recording session. The product name alone doesn’t establish which microphones it fits or how much exposure it’s intended to handle, so don’t treat the number 8 as a size or weather rating. Think of it as a model name, and make the fit and conditions part of your setup decision. If you’re preparing for an outdoor recording, this is the Rycote raincover to look at by name.
Specialist Note
“Is the Duck Raincover 8 meant for a microphone?” Yes — that’s exactly what its product name identifies it as. I’d consider it when recording an interview outdoors or making a location recording where rain could reach the microphone; the practical aim is to have a cover in place around the mic rather than leave it exposed. Rycote is the brand name, and “Duck Raincover 8” is the specific product name to use when asking about it. I wouldn’t read the 8 as a promise of a particular fit or level of rain resistance. For a planned shoot, think about the microphone you’ll use and the conditions you expect, rather than relying on the model name alone.
