Rycote SC-08 Super Cardioid Microphone
Rycote SC-08 Super Cardioid Microphone | Focus on the sound you want
A speaker is talking while other sounds compete for attention: that’s where a supercardioid microphone can earn its place. The Rycote SC-08 is a microphone with a supercardioid pickup pattern, a directional design that favours sound from in front of the mic over sound arriving from other directions. That makes it worth considering for recording a single speaker, an interview or dialogue when you can point the microphone towards the voice you want to capture. It’s a focused way to work, rather than a solution for recording a whole space evenly. Aim it carefully at the speaker and keep the wanted voice as the main source. The product name gives us the model and pickup-pattern type, but no further technical detail to guide choices about equipment or setup. If you need a microphone for a particular recording system, check its requirements against the information available for your setup before deciding.
Specialist Note
The SC-08’s forward-focused pickup pattern is the detail that shapes how you’ll use it: aim it at the voice you want, rather than treating it as a room microphone. I’d consider it for a one-to-one interview or spoken dialogue where the speaker’s position is clear. Keep the mic pointed towards them and make their voice the nearest, most prominent sound source; the supercardioid pattern favours sound from the front, but it doesn’t make surrounding sound disappear. That directional approach suits someone who can control mic placement. If your aim is to capture several people spread around a room, this focused pattern may not be the right fit.
