Rycote Stereo Cyclone DMS Kit 2
Rycote Stereo Cyclone DMS Kit 2 | A stereo-focused microphone kit
The Rycote Stereo Cyclone DMS Kit 2 is a stereo microphone accessory kit with DMS in its name, for sound recordists building a stereo setup. It suits filmmakers and audio professionals who are choosing equipment around a particular microphone configuration, rather than looking for a general-purpose accessory. Its clearest use is work where the recording needs a stereo perspective: for example, capturing environmental ambience or the sound of a location as part of a film. Stereo recording gives the sound scene a left-to-right dimension, so it can be useful when that spatial impression matters to the finished project. The DMS designation makes this a specifically named kit, which is helpful when matching product names during planning. The title alone doesn’t establish which microphones it works with, so treat it as a format-specific option to assess against your own setup, not as a universal fit.
Specialist Note
For filmmakers recording a location’s ambience or natural sound, the stereo designation is the detail I’d focus on first: it points to a kit intended for stereo microphone work, where the sense of space matters. DMS is the other useful clue; I’d use that exact name when matching the kit to a planned DMS setup, rather than assuming another configuration will suit. The “2” is part of the product name, not a recording setting, so I wouldn’t read it as a technical measurement. This makes most sense for someone who already knows they’re building a stereo/DMS rig. For dialogue-only recording, I’d first check that this specific format fits the job.
