Rycote Stereo Windjammer AF (Black)
Rycote Stereo Windjammer AF (Black) | Help tame wind noise outdoors
For outdoor stereo recording, a windjammer helps keep gusts from overwhelming the sound, leaving ambience and location audio more usable. The Rycote Stereo Windjammer AF (Black) is a microphone accessory for that job, with a stereo design and a black finish. It suits sound recordists and filmmakers capturing atmosphere outdoors, or recording speech on location when wind is getting into the take. A wind cover is most useful when air movement reaches the microphone; it gives you a direct way to address that before recording rather than relying on audio cleanup afterwards. The stereo designation makes this the style to consider for a two-channel recording setup, where the sense of space between left and right matters. Choose it when wind is the problem you need to manage, rather than as a general-purpose audio upgrade. Its purpose is specific, and that’s exactly where it earns its place.
Specialist Note
Wind rushing over a microphone can swallow the quieter details in an outdoor take; this windjammer is made to help tackle that particular nuisance. I’d consider it for recording outdoor ambience or location dialogue when you want the stereo scene to remain usable. The stereo design matters because a two-channel recording depends on retaining left-right information, not just getting a sound down. Its black finish is a restrained option when you’d rather the microphone setup draw less attention in the frame. One practical limit: it addresses wind, not unwanted room sound or poor mic positioning, so placement still matters. For a compatible stereo microphone, it’s a focused piece of kit for windy recording conditions.
