Rycote Windjammer Red Blimp
Rycote Windjammer Red Blimp | Wind protection for outdoor microphone recording
Outdoor microphone recording is easier to manage when wind hitting the microphone is less likely to spoil a take. The Rycote Windjammer Red Blimp is a microphone accessory named for wind protection and Blimp use, aimed at people recording dialogue, interviews or ambient sound outside. It’s for situations where moving air is part of the environment, not something you want to hear dominating the recording. The product name gives two useful cues: it’s a Windjammer, and it’s the red version for a Blimp setup. That makes its role clear, though it doesn’t tell us which exact Blimp configuration it fits. If you’re choosing accessories for a particular recording rig, match the product to the Blimp you use rather than relying on the colour or name alone. For location sound, its purpose is straightforward: help you keep the focus on the voices or sounds you went out to record.
Specialist Note
The red finish gives this Windjammer a conspicuous look, which makes it easier to pick out in a shared kit but less discreet if you need accessories to blend into the scene. The name is also quite specific: this is a Windjammer for a Blimp, so I’d treat it as part of that style of microphone setup rather than as a general-purpose cover. It suits sound recordists working outdoors on interviews or location ambience, where wind can become an unwanted part of the take. One practical point: match it to your Blimp arrangement before building it into a kit; the product name alone doesn’t identify an exact configuration.
