Sachtler SAC-3170 Pan Bar Movie Right Telescopic
Sachtler SAC-3170 Pan Bar Movie Right Telescopic | Extend your pan control
Without a pan bar, you have to guide a tripod head directly, which can make smooth camera movement harder to manage. The Sachtler SAC-3170 is a telescopic pan bar for a tripod setup, with a right-hand orientation. It suits operators who want a dedicated handle for guiding pans, rather than steering from the head itself. Its telescopic design lets you adjust the bar’s reach to suit your working position, while the Movie Right designation identifies its orientation. That makes it most useful when you’re building a camera setup that calls for a right-side pan control and want room to set your handle position around the way you work. Use it to guide a deliberate pan across a scene or to follow movement through the frame. It’s a focused accessory, not a complete tripod solution, so it belongs in a setup that uses a pan bar.
A considered addition to your rig
For a measured pan, set the handle where your arm can move steadily, then guide the head through the shot instead of pushing directly on the camera. If you’re following a subject, the adjustable reach can help you find a comfortable operating position before the take. The right-hand orientation is worth paying attention to when planning how your camera controls will sit in the rig.
Specialist Note
When I’m planning a right-hand camera setup, I’d put “SAC-3170” on the rig list so the exact pan bar is easy to identify. The Movie Right orientation is useful when you want to guide movement from that side, and the telescopic design gives you a way to set the handle’s reach for your operating position. I’d use it for a slow pan across a scene or to follow a moving subject: choose a comfortable reach first, then keep your movement steady through the shot. It suits operators who prefer a dedicated handle. Just treat it as a tripod accessory, not a standalone support.
