Samyang 14mm f/2.8 MkII MFT
Samyang 14mm f/2.8 MkII MFT | Broad views for landscapes and night skies
The defining decision is a fixed 14mm focal length: it gives this lens a very wide view without the added range of a zoom. For photographers using a Micro Four Thirds camera, that makes it a specialist option for fitting more of a scene into the frame. It’s particularly well suited to landscapes, architecture and astrophotography, where a broad composition can help show the scale of a place or include more sky. Its stated 75° angle of view gives you room to work with foreground and surroundings, though careful framing matters when straight lines are part of the picture. The f/2.8 maximum aperture is also useful when light is limited. If you enjoy building a composition around one wide perspective rather than changing focal lengths, this Samyang offers a focused, practical way to do it.
Specialist Note
As evening settles over a city square, the façades and the last colour in the sky can fit together in one frame with this 14mm. I’d suggest it to a Micro Four Thirds photographer who enjoys architecture or wants a wide view of the night sky. The f/2.8 maximum aperture lets in more light than a smaller maximum aperture would, which is helpful when photographing stars; use it wide open as a starting point. On this format, 14mm gives an angle of view comparable to 28mm on full frame. One thing to keep in mind: it’s a prime, so you’ll adjust your position or composition rather than zoom in.
