Schneider CFG Radiant Black 2 6.6x6.6
Schneider CFG Radiant Black 2 6.6x6.6 | ND control in a square format
Schneider CFG Radiant Black 2 6.6x6.6 is a square-format ND filter, sized 6.6x6.6 for image-makers working with that filter format. It suits photographers and filmmakers who want to manage the light reaching the camera, particularly when they’re shaping motion or choosing an aperture in bright conditions. As an ND filter, its role is to reduce incoming light; that can give you more room to use a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture than the available light would otherwise allow. The product name identifies it as the Radiant Black 2, but the title alone doesn’t tell us a precise exposure reduction, so I wouldn’t plan a fixed shutter-speed change around the name. This is a specialist-format option: the key practical consideration is having a setup designed for a 6.6x6.6 filter.
Using an ND filter
For moving water, an ND filter can help you lengthen the exposure so the water records with a softer sense of movement. For portraits or video in bright light, reducing incoming light can give you more flexibility to choose a wider aperture. In either case, take an exposure reading with the filter in place and adjust from there. The amount of change depends on the filter’s density, so work from the actual exposure rather than relying on an assumed number of stops.
Specialist Note
In use, the 6.6x6.6 format makes this a considered part of the setup, rather than a small filter you simply screw on and forget. I’d recommend it to someone already working with a filter rig built around this size, especially for controlling light during a long exposure or when filming in bright conditions. Because it’s an ND filter, you can use the reduced light to try a slower shutter for moving water, or a wider aperture for a shallower depth of field; take a fresh reading with the filter fitted. The honest caveat is that the name doesn’t give a stop value, so I wouldn’t promise a particular shutter speed.
