The SmallRig 4221 Travel Video Tripod Kit folds to 41 cm, with reverse-folding carbon-fibre legs and a video head for travel photography and compact video setups. Its short folded length is handy when space in your bag matters, while the carbon-fibre legs keep the kit’s weight to 1.37 kg. Four-section legs with flip locks make height adjustments quick, and the centre column can be reversed for low-angle compositions. For landscapes, the tripod provides a stable platform for careful framing; for night and astro photography, it supports a camera during longer exposures. The supplied video head adds a bowl base for quick levelling, plus a pan handle for controlled movement in a video shot. Its Arca-Swiss-compatible quick-release plate suits setups using that plate format. A removable leg also converts into a monopod, giving the kit another way to support a camera when a full tripod stance isn’t practical. Height, load and handling
- Four-section legs with flip locks: Release the quick locks to adjust the leg sections, then secure them again at the chosen height. This is a straightforward setup when you’re moving between viewpoints.
- Three leg-angle positions: Set the legs to 23°, 55° or 85° to suit different shooting positions. The wide-angle setting is useful when a low stance is more important than working at full height.

- Converts to a monopod: Remove one tripod leg and attach it to the head to make a monopod. It gives you a more compact support option when carrying the full tripod is inconvenient.
- Video head with bowl base: The base offers ±10° of adjustment for levelling the head quickly. The telescopic handle attaches on either the left or right, so you can set up the controls to suit your position.
- Pan and tilt movement: The head rotates through 360° and tilts from +90° to -55°. This range supports controlled pans and a broad choice of shooting angles for video.
- Accessory and camera fittings: The head uses an Arca-Swiss-compatible quick-release plate and has two 1/4"-20 threaded holes for accessories such as a magic arm. A built-in tool is provided for fitting or removing the camera.

“Is the 4221 steady enough for long exposures, or is it mainly a video tripod?” It’s a genuine tripod kit, and I’d consider it for both, provided your camera setup stays within its 4 kg load limit. For a landscape at dusk or a night-sky frame, the carbon-fibre legs give you a portable support to work from, while the three leg-angle settings let you choose a lower stance when needed.
