SMDV FW-2 AC
SMDV FW-2 AC | Trigger off-camera flash for portrait and product work
Getting a flash away from the camera only helps if you can fire it when you need it. The SMDV FW-2 AC is a flash trigger transmitter for photographers who want to use off-camera flash in their lighting setup. It sends the command to fire the flash, letting you position the light separately from the camera. That’s useful for portraits, where changing the flash’s position can shape how light falls on your subject, and for product photography, where you can arrange the light around an object rather than have it come from the camera position. The FW-2 AC has a focused role: it triggers off-camera flashes. It doesn’t shape or modify the light itself, so the look still depends on the flash and how you position it. For portrait and product work where you want to choose where the flash comes from, this transmitter addresses a straightforward, practical need.
Specialist Note
“Can the FW-2 AC fire a flash off the camera?” Yes—that’s exactly its job: it’s a transmitter for triggering off-camera flashes. I’d consider it for a portrait where you want the flash placed away from the camera, or a product setup where you can arrange the light around the item rather than have it come from the camera position. The useful distinction is that the FW-2 AC handles the trigger, not the lighting itself; you’ll still shape the result through flash placement and settings. It suits photographers who already want off-camera flash in their portrait or product workflow, rather than someone looking for a light or a modifier.
