Tiffen 44CGB3H 4x4 CLR/Blue 3 Grad HE Filter
Tiffen 44CGB3H 4x4 CLR/Blue 3 Grad HE Filter | Add a blue grad to selected areas
A pale sky can feel out of place in a scene, even when the rest of the frame is working. The Tiffen 44CGB3H is a graduated filter with a clear-to-blue effect, giving you a way to introduce blue into part of the image while leaving another part clearer. Its name identifies it as a 4x4 CLR/Blue 3 Grad HE filter. That makes it a considered tool for photographers who want to shape colour in-camera, rather than treating the whole frame equally in post-production. It’s especially suited to scenes where a blue-tinted area belongs in the composition, such as a landscape with sky above the horizon. The gradient is the point: this isn’t a uniform blue filter. Use it when you want the colour effect to occupy only part of the frame, and keep the transition positioned with the composition in mind.
Specialist Note
A sky that needs more blue, without tinting the land beneath it, is the problem this filter is made to address. The clear-to-blue graduation lets you keep colour in one part of the frame and a clearer rendering in another; I’d compose with the transition placed where that change makes sense, rather than letting it cut across an important subject. Its 4x4 format is a practical detail to plan around: it suits a setup designed to take that format, rather than a filter thread. The “3 Grad” designation is part of the model name, so I’d avoid assuming a particular exposure effect from it. It’s for photographers who want deliberate, local colour shaping in a scene.
