Tiffen 44UV15 4x4 UV15 Filter
Tiffen 44UV15 4x4 UV15 Filter | UV filtering in a 4x4 format
Without a UV filter, there’s no dedicated UV-filter stage in your optical setup. The Tiffen 44UV15 is a UV filter in a 4x4 format, made for photographers whose filter workflow is built around that size. It’s a considered option for outdoor work such as daylight landscapes or architectural scenes, when you want a UV filter in the light path as you compose and shoot. The practical point to check is the format: this isn’t a general-purpose filter size, so it suits a setup designed to take 4x4 filters. The product name also identifies it as UV15, which makes it easier to select when that’s the specific filter designation your workflow calls for. If you’re choosing a filter for a different format or purpose, this isn’t the one to pick. For the right 4x4 setup, it keeps the choice straightforward: a Tiffen UV filter in the stated format.
Choosing the right filter for your setup
Think about the filter stage you already use before choosing this one. For a daylight landscape, use it when you want UV filtering as part of the image-making setup; for an architectural scene, the same approach applies as you frame the building. In both cases, the useful first step is matching the filter format to your equipment, then using it for the UV-filtering role it’s labelled for. That keeps the choice focused on the job rather than assuming one filter fits every setup.
Specialist Note
“Is the Tiffen 44UV15 the 4x4 UV filter for my setup?” Yes, if your filter arrangement takes that format and you’re after a UV filter. The 4x4 size is the practical detail to match first: it makes this a fit for a setup built around 4x4 filters, not a universal filter. UV15 is the product’s specific designation, so I’d use that when matching the filter to a workflow that calls for this exact type. For outdoor landscapes or daylight architecture, place it in the compatible filter stage when you want UV filtering while you compose. Its clear limit is format: the right choice only when 4x4 is what your setup takes.
