Tilta MB-T16-B Mirage Motorized VND Kit w/ Battery
Tilta MB-T16-B Mirage Motorized VND Kit w/ Battery | Support for handheld video
Without a shoulder rig, handheld video work depends on your arms alone for camera support. The Tilta MB-T16-B Mirage Motorized VND Kit w/ Battery is a shoulder rig for operators who want extra support while filming handheld. Its motorized variable ND filter also gives you a way to adjust filtration as light changes, rather than treating camera support and exposure control as separate jobs. It’s especially suited to video makers who need to stay mobile: think of a handheld interview, a follow-along sequence or a short piece filmed across changing light. This is a specialist rig, so its appeal is less about adding support for occasional stills and more about keeping a handheld video setup practical. If you regularly work without a tripod and want motorized VND in that workflow, this kit brings those two purposes together.
In practice
For a handheld interview, the shoulder-rig format is intended to give the camera extra support while you keep working without a tripod. The VND part addresses a different on-set task: adjusting the amount of neutral-density filtration as the available light changes. That can be useful when moving between brighter and dimmer areas during a video sequence. Think of the kit as a support option for handheld shooting, with motorized VND as part of the same setup—not as a replacement for a tripod when you need a locked-off frame.
Specialist Note
This is a handheld rig, so it won’t replace a tripod for a locked-off interview; the reason to consider it is the combination of shoulder support and motorized VND. I’d point it out to someone filming handheld interviews or following a subject through areas with changing light. Keep the rig on your shoulder for added camera support, then use the variable ND to manage filtration as the light shifts. The kit includes one battery, which is part of the appeal of having the motorized filter in the setup. It’s a focused buy for video work, rather than a general-purpose camera support.
