Tokina 86mm Pro IRND 0.3
Tokina 86mm Pro IRND 0.3 | Subtle one-stop exposure control
Tokina 86mm Pro IRND 0.3 is an 86mm ND filter with a 0.3 density, for photographers and filmmakers who need a measured reduction in the light reaching the lens. The 0.3 value corresponds to one stop, giving you a small adjustment rather than a dramatic darkening. That suits bright scenes where you’re close to the shutter speed or aperture you want and need a little room to hold it. It’s also a sensible option when a subtle exposure change is enough and you don’t want a much stronger ND effect. The IRND designation identifies it as an infrared-neutral-density filter. Its key sizing detail is 86mm: choose it for a lens with a matching filter thread. For long daylight exposures with pronounced motion blur, one stop may not be enough on its own.
When a subtle reduction helps
For video, a modest reduction can help you keep your chosen shutter setting in bright conditions. For stills, it can give you a little more room to use a wider aperture. Think of this filter as a fine exposure adjustment, rather than a way to create a strongly darkened scene. That distinction matters if you’re planning a long exposure in daylight.
Specialist Note
Bright sun falls across a busy street, and you want just a little more control over exposure. That’s where the Tokina 86mm Pro IRND 0.3 makes sense. Its one-stop reduction is a measured tweak: useful when you’re trying to keep a chosen shutter setting for video or open the aperture a little for a still. The 86mm size means you’ll need a lens with a matching filter thread, so check that detail when choosing it. I’d point this out to anyone who wants a restrained adjustment, not a dramatic long-exposure effect; this filter’s single-stop change has a clear limit.
