Tokina 95mm Pro IRND 0.3
Tokina 95mm Pro IRND 0.3 | A modest light reduction for precise exposure
Tokina 95mm Pro IRND 0.3 is a 95mm IRND filter with a 0.3 density designation. It’s for photographers and filmmakers who want a measured reduction in light rather than a strong change to exposure. A 0.3 neutral-density value corresponds to one stop, so it gives you a small, practical adjustment when you’re close to the shutter speed or aperture you want. That makes it relevant for daylight video, where you may want to retain a chosen shutter speed, and for still photography where a slightly longer exposure can soften movement. The IRND name identifies the filter’s infrared-neutral-density type; it isn’t a substitute for a heavier ND filter when you need a much longer exposure. The 95mm designation is an important part of choosing it: match that size to the filter arrangement you plan to use. If your exposure only needs a one-stop adjustment, this Tokina keeps the change straightforward.
What the 0.3 density means
A one-stop reduction halves the light reaching the camera. In practical exposure terms, a shutter speed of 1/125 second becomes approximately 1/60 second at the same aperture and ISO. For video, that modest shift can help you hold a chosen shutter speed in brighter conditions; for a still, it can add a little motion blur to moving water or a passing subject. The effect is intentionally limited, so this is a filter for fine exposure adjustment, not a way to create very long exposures on its own.
Specialist Note
Exposure shifts stay small with this filter, so you can make a one-stop adjustment without jumping to a much darker setting. I’d consider it for daylight video when you want to keep a chosen shutter speed, or for a still where moving water needs just a touch more blur: at 1/125 second, the 0.3 density brings you to about 1/60 second at the same aperture and ISO. The 95mm size is worth planning around before you build your filter setup; it needs to match the arrangement you intend to use. This suits someone who knows they need a measured step. For a much longer exposure, one stop may simply not be enough.
