Urth 43mm Ethereal 1/8 Diffusion Lens Filter (Plus+)
Urth 43mm Ethereal 1/8 Diffusion Lens Filter (Plus+) | Softer highlights, with a subtle diffusion look
Bright points of light can look hard and distracting in a portrait or an evening scene. The Urth 43mm Ethereal 1/8 Diffusion Lens Filter is made for photographers who want a gentler, less clinical rendering without choosing a stronger diffusion effect. Its name identifies both the 1/8 strength and the 43mm filter size, so the key practical check is the filter-thread diameter on your lens. Use it when you want to soften the look of highlights while keeping the scene recognisable and detailed, rather than turning diffusion into the main visual effect. It suits portrait photographers, makers of atmospheric video, and anyone who prefers a softer character in selected images. The Plus+ name is part of this filter’s product designation; no further construction details are provided here. This is a look-making filter, so it’s best reserved for scenes where that softer rendering is part of your intention.
Specialist Note
Hard-looking highlights are often what make a portrait feel less gentle than you intended; this filter gives you a way to soften that impression in-camera. The 1/8 diffusion strength is a restrained starting point for portraits or a night scene with bright lights in frame, where you want a softer rendering without making diffusion the whole picture. Its 43mm size matters: match it to a lens with a 43mm filter thread, rather than assuming it fits every lens you own. I’d suggest using it when you’ve chosen that softer character deliberately. If crisp, neutral rendering is the priority for a particular shot, leave the diffusion filter off.
