Urth 49mm Magnetic Ethereal Black Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 49mm Magnetic Ethereal Black Mist Filter Plus+ | Add a soft, atmospheric look
Point lights in a night scene or a bright window in a portrait can feel a little too crisp. The Urth 49mm Magnetic Ethereal Black Mist Filter Plus+ is made for photographers who want a softer, more atmospheric rendering rather than a completely neutral look. Its Black Mist name describes the creative direction: a gentle, hazy character around bright areas that can suit portraits, city lights and other scenes where you want a more expressive finish. The magnetic design gives you a way to put that effect in place or take it off without treating it as a permanent part of every shot. At 49mm, it’s a specific size, so match that measurement to the filter fitting on the lens you plan to use. This is an effect filter, not a general-purpose correction; it earns its place when you want the image to feel softer and more dreamlike, and less so when you’re after a crisp, unaltered look.
Specialist Note
Want a softer mood without committing every frame to it? That’s where this filter’s magnetic design is useful: you can bring the effect in for a portrait or a scene with bright points of light, then remove it when you want a cleaner rendering. The 49mm size matters when choosing which lens to use it with, so look for a lens with a matching filter fitting. I’d use it deliberately for portraits near a bright window or for evening lights, keeping the filter on only when that hazier character supports the scene. It suits photographers who enjoy shaping the look in-camera. One honest caveat: Black Mist is an expressive effect, so it won’t be the right choice for every image.
