Urth 62mm Ethereal 1/4 Diffusion Lens Filter (Plus+)
Urth 62mm Ethereal 1/4 Diffusion Lens Filter (Plus+) | A gentle, in-camera diffusion effect
Without a diffusion filter, you can soften a portrait later in editing, but the image is already captured with its original rendering. The Urth Ethereal 1/4 Diffusion Lens Filter gives you a way to shape that look as you shoot. It’s for photographers who want highlights to feel softer and contrast a little less crisp, without making diffusion the whole point of the image. That makes it especially suited to portraits, intimate scenes and frames with bright lights in view, where a gentler rendering can add atmosphere. The 1/4 strength is a restrained starting point if you want the effect to remain subtle. This is a specific creative filter, rather than a general-purpose colour adjustment: choose it when you want to influence the look of the light, not change its colour. The Plus+ name identifies this version in Urth’s Ethereal range.
Specialist Note
The 1/4 effect is meant to be gentle, so don’t buy this expecting a dramatic glow or a heavily softened image. Its appeal is that it can bring a quieter, more atmospheric feel while leaving the scene recognisable. I’d suggest it to portrait photographers who want a softer impression of skin, or to anyone composing around bright lamps or other highlights. Put the filter on before you frame the shot, then pay attention to how those bright areas sit in the image; that’s where diffusion is most noticeable. The 62mm size is the key practical detail: it suits a lens made for 62mm filters, so it’s a focused purchase for that setup rather than a universal fit.
