Laowa Sword 100mm T2.9 2X Macro Cine Lens ARRI PL | Bring tiny details into focus

Fine texture, lettering and small natural details can fill the frame, giving close-up shots a deliberate, cinematic feel. The Laowa Sword 100mm T2.9 2X Macro Cine Lens is an interchangeable cinema lens for filmmakers who need to go beyond ordinary close focus, especially on product, nature and other macro work. Its 2X macro design lets you record subjects at very high magnification, so surface detail can become the subject rather than background decoration. The 100mm focal length gives those details a tight, composed view, while the maximum T2.9 aperture offers exposure flexibility when a set is dimmer. With an ARRI PL mount, it’s made for a PL-mount cinema setup. Manual focus suits crews who want to place focus deliberately on a chosen detail rather than leave that decision to autofocus.

For considered close-up shots

This lens has a focused role: bringing small subjects and fine details forward in product films and nature sequences. It suits filmmakers who are happy to work carefully with focus and want macro magnification as part of the image, not just an occasional close-up. That makes it a specialised tool rather than an all-purpose cinema lens.

Specialist Note

First-time macro filmmakers often expect to find focus as casually as they do on a wider shot; at this magnification, a small focus change can matter. Here you have manual focus, so take time to settle on the exact feature you want viewers to notice. For a product label or a fine natural texture, I’d frame the detail first, then refine focus on that point. The 100mm focal length gives you a tight view, and T2.9 is there when you need the lens’s widest aperture. It suits product and nature crews who enjoy deliberate close-up work; the trade-off is that focus needs active attention.
