Laowa Sword 35mm T2.9 1X Macro Cine Lens ARRI PL | Life-size close-ups for cinema

Laowa Sword 35mm T2.9 1X Macro Cine Lens ARRI PL pairs a 35mm focal length with 1X macro capability for close-up cinema work. It’s built for filmmakers who need to frame small subjects with care, from tabletop product scenes to details in nature. At 1X magnification, a subject can be recorded at life size, making fine textures and small components easier to feature in the frame. The 35mm view also gives you room to include some of the surroundings, so a close detail can still feel connected to its setting. With an ARRI PL mount, this interchangeable lens belongs in a PL-based cinema kit. It’s a specialist option for controlled macro framing, rather than a lens aimed at covering every kind of scene. If your work often calls for close product or nature shots, its combination of a familiar focal length and true macro capability is the point to consider.

Specialist Note

Filmmakers shooting tabletop products or small natural details will get the most from this lens. I’d use manual focus to place attention precisely on a label, surface mark or leaf edge; that control matters when a tiny shift can change what reads clearly in the shot. The T2.9 maximum gives you the option to open the lens fully when you need more light. At macro distances, though, focus can be demanding, and the depth of field may be very shallow at that setting. For a product insert, focus deliberately on the detail you want viewers to notice, and consider stopping down if the shot needs more of the subject in focus. It suits measured, composed work best.
